Philip Walter Foden, born on 28 May 2000 in Stockport, Greater Manchester, is an English professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder or winger for Manchester City and the England national team. A lifelong City supporter, he joined the club’s academy at age eight and has grown into one of the most technically gifted and tactically intelligent young talents in world football.
Foden burst into the spotlight in 2017 by starring for England’s under-17 team, earning the FIFA U‑17 World Cup Golden Ball as he led his country to the title. Later that year, he made his senior debut for Manchester City and won the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award. In the 2017–18 season, he became the youngest English player to earn a Premier League winner’s medal, contributing to a campaign managed by Pep Guardiola.
Through the next few years, Foden won multiple domestic trophies, including Premier League titles in 2018–19, 2020–21, 2021–22, 2022–23, and 2023–24, along with FA Cups, League Cups, Community Shields, and most notably, the UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup in 2023. During the 2023–24 campaign, he scored 27 goals and provided 11 assists in 53 appearances, becoming a driving force behind City’s fourth consecutive league title and earning Premier League Player of the Season, PFA Players’ Player of the Year, FWA Footballer of the Year, and Manchester City’s Etihad Player of the Season.
On the international stage, Foden represented England across youth levels before making his senior debut in September 2020. He has since featured in UEFA Euro 2020, the 2022 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2024, and most recently starred in the 2025 Club World Cup, where he scored and assisted in a dominant City performance. Over 40 caps, he has shown his ability to perform on the biggest stages.
Known for his lightning-quick feet, creative vision, and positional versatility, Foden can thrive centrally, on the wing, or in a number 10 role. Though diminutive in stature, his game intelligence, close control, and audacious flair make him a constant threat. He is equally praised for his professionalism, grounded nature, and strong work ethic—traits that have earned him respect from teammates and coaches alike.
At 25, Phil Foden has already and remarkably claimed nearly every major club honour available. Despite a brief dip in form during the 2024–25 season, he responded with renewed energy and rediscovered his spark at the Club World Cup, signaling a promising return to his best. As he enters the richest phase of his career, Foden stands as one of the most exciting, influential, and charismatic players shaping the future of English and world football.
